The piece
A period American petrol station restored from top to bottom: black and white bodywork relacquered, “Total sale” and “Gallons” counters rebuilt behind their glass, original hose and nozzle on their bracket, crank handle in place. The globe backlights the Stuttgart crest. Two metres tall — the piece that commands an entrance hall, a showroom or a grand garage, and stops everyone who walks past.
